Kobell, Wilhelm von

The Siege of Cosel
Oil on canvas, 202 x 305 cm
Neue Pinakothek, Munich

German painter (1766 - 1853).
He developed his father(landscape painter)'s style of landscape painting as well as producing a number of battle pictures.
Stylistically, Kobell based his work on Dutch art.
He spent time in Paris, but evaded the influence of the theatrical battle scenes in vogue there.
