He became interested in painting after seeing some works of Eugène Delacroix.

French-born American painter.
Originally a merchant seaman, he was impelled to take up painting after seeing pictures by
Chirico and in 1925 joined the Surrealist group.
His paintings have a unique, immediately recognizable style of nonrepresentational surrealism. They show vast, abstract landscapes, mostly in a tightly limited palette of colors, only occasionally showing flashes of contrasting color accents.

Franz Xaver Winterhalter (1805–1873), German painter, the most successful court portraitist of his period.
Concerning Winterhalter’s method of working, it is thought that, practiced as he was at drawing and representing figures, he painted directly onto the canvas without making preliminary studies. He frequently decided upon the dress and pose of the sitter. His style was suave, cosmopolitan and plausible.

This picture shows the Duke of Wellington offering a gift to Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and Prince Arthur, in a scene resembling the Adoration of the Magi.
The painting was commissioned by Queen Victoria to commemorate the 1st of May 1851, which held a threefold significance: it was the first birthday of Prince Arthur, the eighty-second birthday of prince's godfather the Duke of Wellington, and the opening day of the Great Exhibition. Prince Arthur holds Lily-of-the-valley, a traditional 1st of May gift said to bring good luck. The Crystal Palace can be seen in the background.

In his use of dynamic composition, illusionistic perspective and dramatic foreshortening, Correggio prefigured the Rococo art of the 18th century.

There is a certain level of somberness, but it ultimately showcases dignity in their choice of lifestyle.

Family of Saltimbanques is a major painting by Picasso from this time, with the height and width measuring more than two meters.
