Raphael Sanzio

Portrait of Maddalena Doni
Oil on panel, 63 x 45 cm
Galleria Palatina (Palazzo Pitti), Florence

Raphael (1483 – 1520) was an Italian painter and architect of the High Renaissance, celebrated for the perfection and grace of his paintings and drawings.

The composition of the portraits resembles that of the Mona Lisa: the figures are presented in the same way in respect to the picture plane, and their hands, like those of the Mona Lisa, are placed on top of one another.
