Sophie Gengembre Anderson (1823 – 1903) was a French-born British artist who specialised in genre painting of children and women, typically in rural settings. With the 1848 revolution her family moved to the United States, living in Ohio and Pennsylvania. There she met the American painter Walter Anderson. They married and moved back to London. They were great friends with Lewis Carroll - Alice in Wonderland.
Her paintings are full of hope and promise.
