Evelyn de Morgan (c.1850-1919), English painter.
Evelyn's family did not support her artistic talents so she studied in secret until at the age of 15.
On the morning of her seventeenth birthday, she recorded in her diary, "Art is eternal, but life is short..." "I will make up for it now, I have not a moment to lose." She went on to persuade her parents to let her go to art school. At first her family discouraged it, but in 1873 she was enrolled at the Slade School of Art, where she proved herself to be a prize winning pupil.
