Austrian painter who settled in England after her marriage.
She was considered one of the leading artists in Victorian England.
'Aucassin and Nicolette' is perhaps the best known of all French tales, these 13th-century lovers were thwarted by a proud and cruel father. Marianne Stokes was influenced by the rustic naturalists, yet often painted scenes of medieval romance to showcase her talents.
